Living in southeast Michigan I’m sure you’ve experienced it; bumper to bumper traffic on one of the many highways or interstates that weave through the Ann Arbor area. We all wish there were some magic button that we could push that would just clear the road in front of us. A giant plow or bulldozer perhaps that could sweep through and just move all those vehicles out of our way. When the road is clear its easy sailing, we can get from point A to point B in a stress free reasonable time.

Reading the title you might be wondering if Dr. Andrew has lost his mind. How could anyone eat fat and lose fat? No I didn’t go crazy and YES you can eat a fatty diet and train your body to LOSE FAT. Before your mind blows let me give you a little background on why conventional dietary knowledge tells us that fat makes us fat. For the past 30-40 years low fat diets were promoted to the public to give us healthier arteries and slimmer waists. The reasoning for this was that a low fat diet, in particular, a low saturated fat diet has lower cholesterol, which was believed to cause heart disease. As a result, there are more than 15,000 low fat products in American grocery stores. Since the 1970s fat consumption dropped from 40% to 34% in the American diet, while obesity increased from 14% to 22%. As the American waistline changed, the nutritional knowledge didn’t.
Before we understand how eating fat will assist in fat lose we must first understand the 2 types of fats. I like to simply call them healthy fats and damaged fats.

When the topic of fitness and exercise comes up most people ask the question, “what should I be doing in the gym to help me lose weight or gain muscle?” The fitness program that you choose has a dramatic impact on the results you achieve. One aspect of fitness that most people seem to over look is the time of day they choose to workout. In other words there is a specific time of day when your physiology is at its optimal levels to burn fat and build muscle. You might be wondering how is this so? I thought just getting my but in the gym on a regular basis would be enough to kick my metabolism in high gear? This is partially true, however research has shown that there is a specific time frame during the day where your metabolism and hormones are at the optimal levels to get the best results.
